It’s been almost a month since my last day at work. Today I am returning to work. I’m on “light duties” for the next two weeks which basically means no lifting over 20 pounds, no stooping, crawling, climbing or kneeling for the next 14 days.
I’m feeling OK physically. I’m not in any significant pain. Parts of my core are still aching but that pain is well within tolerable levels.
Emotionally I’m not feeling quite as well. Truth to tell I’m nervous about the return to work. I’m not sure about how I’ll handle 8 hours straight of work. I’m not at all confident that I’ll quickly adjust to the change in sleep patterns that returning to work will bring. I’ve gotten used to going to bed early and getting up early. However a return to work means I’ll be starting work at 2pm and knocking off at 10pm. I anticipate that will be a tough adjustment for me.
So today I walk into the next phase of my recovery, praying for mercy as I do.
